The ninth grade just finished a rather long unit on factoring. They learned about greatest common factoring, difference of squares, factor by grouping, and quadratic trinomials. They had two chapters of factoring. In the first chapter, they learned how to factor, and in the second they applied factoring to simplifying, multiplying, dividing, adding and subtracting algebraic fractions. We finished off the second chapter with polynomial long division. Factoring is an important concept in math that they will still be doing in college.
